FAQs
IMPORTANT CANDLE INFORMATION:
All candles are hand poured by the Ocean Crone, made of 100% soy wax. All stones are cleansed and charged by the moon, chosen with intention, and carefully placed with protective energy. Any herbs, flowers, or leaves are from the Ocean Crone’s organic Oregon garden unless otherwise noted. Each candle is unique, no two are exactly the same.
SAFETY FAQs:
Q: Are your candles made with natural pure essential oils?
A: No. Natural essential oils are not candle-safe. Many are also not pet-safe, because of the volatile compounds that may be released when they are burned. Natural oils have varying flashpoints, some of which are lower than the temperature a candle burns at. Using natural essential oils in a candle can cause the entire candle (all of the wax pool) to catch fire.
Q: Ok, so what do you use for fragrance?
A: We use only professional grade fragrance oils, which use natural fragrances as a base but are processed to be candle safe. They are all phthalate free, and certified to contain no known carcinogens, mutagens, reproductive toxins, organ toxins, or acute toxins. They meet the requirements of California Proposition 65 to avoid certain toxins. See the list of items excluded by Prop 65 here.
Q: Is it still possible for the entire candle to catch fire?
A: Yes. This is a possibility with ANY candle, though following directions for proper burning can reduce risk.
Q: If a candle catches fire, can I put water on it to put the flame out?
A. NO. NEVER throw water on a candle, it can cause an explosion or large flame. See an example of what can happen and learn more about how to put out a candle fire here.
You should treat any candle fire like a grease fire in the kitchen. NEVER use water, you must smother the flame. (This is also why candle snuffers are the appropriate way to put out a candle, rather than blowing, which can cause hot wax to spatter).
SAFETY RULES FOR BURNING CANDLES:
NEVER leave a burning candle unattended. Period.
Remove any flammable or decorative items before burning. Many people use the candles as a decor piece and never burn them. However, if you choose to light them, you must remove any flammable decorations from the top of the candle. Note, our candles do NOT have additional items hidden inside the candle, the decor visible on top is everything.
Do not burn candles within reach of kids or pets. Both can get too close to a candle and hurt themselves, or inadvertently knock a candle over, leading to fire.
Burn candles on a fire-safe surface. If you are burning them on top of something like a wooden shelf, make sure there is something firesafe, like a candle plate, below the candle.
Make sure there is nothing flammable above or near the candles. For example, do not place candles near hanging drapes/curtains, decorative wall hangings, or where there is another shelf of a flammable material such as wood right above the candle.
STOP burning when there is still about an inch of wax left in the candle. If you burn candles all the way to the bottom, you risk both the candle catching fire AND you risk the container cracking or even exploding. You MUST stop burning the candle while there is still wax in the bottom. If you want to use up the rest for the scent, you can scoop it out with a spoon and place it in a wax-warmer as if it were wax melts.
CANDLE BURNING TIPS:
The first time you burn the candle, let it burn at least one hour for each inch of the container diameter to get a full melt pool. If you do not do this, your candle “remembers” how far it burned the last time, and will only pool out as far as you burned it before, resulting in “tunneling” (where the candle burns down the middle leaving tons of wax at the edges.)
Some candles in more delicate containers may be intentionally under-wicked so that the wax pool does not reach the edge of the container, to reduce the risk of over-heating the container.
If when you are done with the candle there is significant wax at the edges, you can scoop that out with a spoon and burn it in a wax warmer for the scent, as if it were wax melts.
Remove the stones from your candle and wash them gently with hot water and gentle soap. Soy wax is easily dissolved in this way. Dry stones immediately as some crystals do not like water!
OTHER FAQs:
Q:Why is shipping so expensive?
A:Many of our items are fragile, and must be well-packed, meaning the package weighs more than the item alone. As for why shipping rates are so high, you’ll have to ask USPS/UPS about that.
Q:What do I get when I purchase a digital reading?
A:You will receive a digital download product in .pdf format which will include photos of the cards pulled for your query and a written explanation of the reading.
Q:How soon can I expect my reading after I purchase?
A:Your reading should arrive in your inbox within 24 hours of purchase. Please be sure to double check your email address provided. If you do not see your reading within this timeframe, please let us know asap!
Q:What if I think the cards mean something different than what you said?
A:Your reading may not match the card definitions that you will find by searching card meanings on the internet, or even what another tarot reader may tell you. The Ocean Crone has read Tarot since 1995, and her skills and intuition honed over those decades, along with the guidance of her ancestors, is brought to every reading.
Q:My reading didn’t come true, can I get a refund?
A:No. As noted on the front page of the site, Tarot isn’t necessarily a “prediction” tool, and people’s free will may change outcomes. Readings are offered for entertainment purposes only.
Q:How do I know if I will like The Ocean Crone’s reading style?
A:The Ocean Crone has an Instagram page where she offers free general readings on a roughly weekly basis. These are general pick-a-card readings and are not personalized to an individual person or question, but we encourage you to look at the readings provided to determine if the Ocean Crone’s style is right for you.
Q:I feel like the reading I received was kind of harsh, why?
A:It’s called “truth bomb tarot,” not “tell me what I want to hear tarot.”
Q:Well, I still don’t like it, I don’t agree with it. Can I get a refund?
A:No. the Ocean Crone does not guarantee you will hear what you want to hear, or that you will like what the cards have to say. This is the real world, and sometimes everything is not rosy.
